There is
an intangible common bond among former Golden Bear hockey
players. Perhaps it is the friendships and memories of playing
for such a famous and historic team; perhaps it is a sense of
personal pride and accomplishment for some. Perhaps it is the
opportunity to play with such great coaches as Clare Drake,
Billy Moores, or Rob Daum.
Whatever the
reason, during the past 90 years, over 750 men have had the
privilege of being a Golden Bear hockey player, coach,
manager, or trainer. As alumni, our group would like to
"give back" a little of what we got out of the
program at the University of Alberta.
The Golden Bears Hockey Alumni, a registered non-profit
society, has become a very solid and supportive group. The
main purpose of the group is threefold: To help promote the
Golden Bears Hockey program in the community; to financially
assist the team in areas not covered by the regular athletic
budget and thirdly, to draw Alumni together socially.
Over the past 20 years, through numerous fundraisers, we
have been fortunate in establishing a strong financial base
and at various times we call upon Alums and current players to
assist in these endeavors.
As former members of the Golden Bears Hockey Team, we know
that a player's time with the team will be a tremendous experience
and that lifelong friendships will result. Hopefully, as an
Alumnus of the future, you will help to carry on the
proud Golden Bear tradition for many years to come.
We feel that it is very important to maintain the lines of
communication between Alums, coaches and current team members.
Hopefully, this handbook and our website will assist in that
effort. Bookmark us NOW!!
