4.1) Treasurer’s Report:

q       Koeb’s went through the disbursements for the past two months, as we did not meet in January. (Barts / Lajoie). Approved

4.2) Coach’s Report:

q       Coach mentioned that Jonathan Hobson and Brett Girard have been great additions in terms of hockey abilities and attitude.

q       Bears have clinched 1st place in the division and if we get 1 point this weekend against Saskatchewan we will have home ice advantage throughout the playoffs.

q       Recruiting has started already. Mike McGhan and Sean Day are the only two players that will not be returning next year due to graduation.

Business Arising:

5.1) Pee Wee Tourney

q       Anticipated profit from the Tourney is in the $4300.00 range. Great job Dan and all the volunteers that helped.

q       Dan notified the group that he may not be here to run the tourney next year, but he will do as much as he can as far as organizing goes before he leaves. We need someone to step up and take on the day to day operations of the tourney.

5.2) Newsletter:

q       Mac has been unable to commit any time to this project and is looking for some help from someone to take on this project. The value of the newsletter has been discussed quite a bit over the past few meetings and the group collectively thought that it serves as valuable communications piece for our members. There is no doubt that the web site will enhance, augment, and someday completely replace the newsletter. Maybe we are at this stage already? If anyone would like to take on this task, please advise Mac.

5.3) Golf Tourney:

q       We have $8700 to collect for the 2001 tourney. If we collect the total we will net approx. $23,500.00 !

q       Goose Hummock is booked for Thursday August 15th, 2002 for year 2!

5.4) Casino Update:

q       Hinger stressed the need for lots of workers due to the Bears playoffs taking place the same weekend (March 8th and 9th,  2002)

New Business:

6.1) Gaming Update:

Gaming is starting to be a little more particular for information that we are providing as them in terms of what we are funding:

q       “Out of Province” vs “in province” funding: AGLC completely endorses financial support for activities within the province of Alberta. AGLC has concerns with financial support for “out of province” activities (ie. Meals for the team in Manitoba, Sask, or B.C.). Mac and Coach Daum will send the AGLC a schedule for 2002/2003 schedule showing the AGLC when the Bears play in other provinces to proactively address this issue.

q       In town Meals: No longer are we allowed to provide “in town meals” for the players. Solution for the team will be to eat meals just outside of Edmonton (Leduc, Sherwood Park, etc).

q       Tutoring Costs: Gaming is questioning why and what we are doing as far as funding tutoring expenditures. Mac has written a letter to Gaming and is awaiting feedback. Way to go Mac.

6.2) Kyle Craig

q       Sid provided an update on Wes’s son and he is doing great after the meningitis scare.

q       Motion to provide the Craig’s with a $100 gift certificate for Boston Pizza and 6 tickets for a Bears Playoff Hockey Game. (Boumeester / April) Approved Unanimously.

6.3) Germany Trip:

q       Sid spoke on Bokey’s behalf as Bokey was still eating at the time. They are trying to set up a tour of cities in Germany that different Alumns played in. Stay tuned for details from Sid on behalf of Bokey.

6.4) 1992 Reunion:

q       Scott  Ironside mentioned that the 1992 team are planning on a reunion this summer for the 92 Championship team. They are considering the weekend after the 2nd Annual Golf Bears Golf Tourney at Goose Himmock (Aug 15th 2002). Scott will put together a request for some financial support from the GBHA for this event for things like hats or T-shirts.

Motion to adjourn: (Lajoie / Ironside) 8:12 PM

Next Meeting: Monday March 4th , 2002 Minerva Centre
