Since 1989, we have continued to gain funds from casinos.
Our most recent two-day event raised $60,000 for the Hockey
Program. Our NHL Draft, annually brings in around $10,000 and
the Pee Wee Tournament raises between $4000 and $5000 each
Christmas. 50/50 Draws usually bring in $5000 per season. In
2001, thanks to Dennis Cranston and his hardworking organizing
committee, the Golden Bears Hockey Golf Classic was started.
This celebrity tournament has been a huge success and
hopefully, it will continue to be a great event and a
tremendous fund raiser.
GAMING COMMISSION FUNDS
All funds raised through casino, raffles, NHL
Drafts, 50/50 draws, etc. are controlled by the Government of
Alberta's Gaming Commission. Money raised from these
activities can only be used for very specific items, all of
which are governed and approved by the commission.
Examples of our Gaming approved expenditures
are scholarships, meal money for road trips and equipment and
supplies beyond the regular athletic budget (skates, for
example).
Examples of things that Gaming funds cannot be
used for are alumni postage, letterhead, envelopes, ice rental
for Alumni functions, and food or refreshments for Alumni
functions.
ALUMNI GENERAL FUNDS
The Golden Bears Hockey Alumni's General
Fund must be used to pay for all administrative expenses
incurred in running the affairs of our group. We generate
general funds through our social functions, donations from
Alumni members, the Christmas Pee Wee Tournament and the
Golden Bears Golf Classic.
